Abia LG Polls: Chief Okey, Dr. Ukiwe Call For Peace, Support

As Abia State government prepares for the forthcoming election into the chairmanship position across the 17 Local government areas of the state, a clarion call has been made, urging Abians to cast their votes in peace and harmony during the exercise.

The call came shortly after the leadership of the ruling party, People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) handed her flags to the various candidates from each LGA, yesterday, at Trade Moore Event Center, Okpara Square, in Umuahia, the state’s capital, a perceived show of preparedness for the battle ahead, slated for December 18.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Famous Reporters, Chief Okey Kalu, the flag bearer of Ukwa West LGA emphasised the need for a tranquil atmosphere, insisting that nothing can be achieved in a catastrophic environment, as he charged the people of Ukwa West to embrace same.

Chief Kalu, who expressed utter confidence in his people, maintained that “a peaceful environment is needed and we have spoken enough because without peace we can’t do anything. And I believe our people love peace and they are going to embrace it that day”, he boasted.

Furthermore, the prospective Chairman, in an aura of optimism, described the council as a family, as he pledged to imbibe a team spirit upon assumption of office, reiterating “we will carry everyone along because we are one family.

Also, he assured that his emergence would in no doubts, attract more basic facilities, which, according to him would apparently made the council area a center of attraction, adding “that is why we are here”, he said.

On the fate of the youths of his area, he said: “The election is going to be peaceful and of course, after the election, we go to work. Programmes have been made for the Youths because the problem we have today is the youths”, he lamented, while condemning the rate of unemployment suffered by the teaming youths in spite of graduating from different fields of endeavour.

He, however, assured that his tenure would better the lots of the youths, as used the medium to appeal for their support and cooperation.

Similarly, Dr. Okoroafor Ukiwe, chairmanship candidate, Ohafia LGA, described the PDP party as “the dominant party in the state”, and assured that the party, in conjunction with the state government would return smiles on their faces.

Dr. Ukiwe who boasted about his envisaged victory at the election urged the people of Ohafia and Abia in general to massively cast their votes in favour of the party, assuring that their success would deliver to them the dividends of democracy.

“PDP is on ground in Abia State it is the dominant party in Abia State, at end of it, we’ll all return to our we’ll go back to our local governments to chill the ground and pull our people in mass to support PDP and vote for PDP on December 18.

He advised the people to support the party to ensure her victory, insisting that dividends of democracy is only obtainable through the party, adding, “so I’m asking them to come out in mass and vote for PDP because this is the time the people of Abia State will say thank you to the present Governor of Abia State.
