CAN Says Boko Haram Targets Christians To trigger religious War. See Why….

The South East and South South Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) has frowned at the level of insurgency, following the incessant killings of innocent Christians in the country.

This assertion was made in a communiqué signed and issue to news men  by the CAN Chairmen of South South and South East,  Dr. Ege Isreal Enyiekemini and Bishop Dr. Goddy Okafor respectively, in Umuahia after a one colloquium on insecurity in Nigeria, with the theme, “the Sacredness of Life”.

The initiative which was held at Vision Africa Complex, Umuahia the capital city of Abia on Monday 2nd March 2020, was aimed at Interacting with people on the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, comprised
participants drawn from  the South South and South East parts of the country.

The Communiqué read in part, “

“We observed with dismay the outrageous spate of terrorism and insecurity of lives and property of citizens and plead with federal government to seek help of the international community in the face of this daunting challenge, if it must ensure reconciliation and sustained peace”.

” we vehemently call for the cessation of incitement, misrepresentation and distortion of the image of the other and of the neighbour, drawing upon you the religious traditions and our understanding of what is best for our community and peoples, we call for a solution that recognizes the rights of Christians to exist in Dignity”.

” We all value the principle of the sanctity of life and we call for its practice in truism. The violence that is conducted in the name of God, is a desecration of his name, a crime against those whom he created in his image and a debasement of faith. “

” There is urgent need to sincerely rejig and decentralize Nigerian security arrangement for efficiency”.

“We call on government to improve on intelligence  gathering and deployment of modern technology to track and monitor the operations of the insurgents”.

Meanwhile, the meeting had in attendance some key religious leaders in the state selected from CAN and other faith leaders.
