Class of 2009 IIJ Alumni Elects New Excos
…As Uba emerges President

Ikemba Don Uba has emerged the President of the International Institute of Journalism, IIJ Abuja( 2009/ 2010) set last Sunday.

He emerged through a highly and heartily contested election and emerged victorious with 25 votes in Owerri.

During the election, Mrs. Steiner Opara, a one time “African Queen” in a beauty pageant also emerged the Vice President, while Comrade Max Chidozie Unegbu was elected the Secretary.

Others elected were, Deaconess Ijeoma Edmund Naomi, as Treasurer, Charity Uwakwe (aka. Distinguished Chacha) as Financial Secretary and Mr. Dickson Azuh as the Publicity Secretary.

In his acceptance speech and vote of thanks , Don Uba, who is also the National Publicity Secretary of Orluzurumee Youths, the Youth wing of Orluzurumee Cultural Union, thanked his colleagues for finding him worthy to be the Pioneer President of the organization and pledged to do his best possible never disappoint them for trusting his ability to lead.

He urged all members to cooperate with his leadership so as to realise the their corporate ambitions.

” I am overwhelmed with joy as you have found me worthy to lead the great men and women in different careers who belong here. I pledge never to let you down and appeal that you always criticise the new executive members constructively where necessary and not destructively.

” This exercise that led to my emergence was a collective idea of all of us and for that, we all should be part of the leadership, while I will be your arrow head in our own good interests.

” However, I must appreciate the efforts of the newly elected Vice President, Mrs. Steiner Opara, for coming up with the idea for the formation of this organization. We are indebted to her and pray that God blesses her as she assists me in giving an effective leadership to our organization, Uba, who is a graduate of Political Science from the Abia State University (ABSU), opined.

Furthermore, the Lawyer in equity called on other classes or sets who graduated from the institution to liaise with his set, which described a “The Champions” in making sure a formidable Alumni association is put in place soon.
