The government of Abia state led by Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has disclosed that the new phase of the fight against COVID-19 is that the state would embark on massive test of citizens to achieve at least 10% of the population.
The Governor stated this in a release he signed and made available to media houses in the state, urging citizens and residents to desist from rumour mongering, but rather help the government in the extant battle against the pandemic.
Governor Ikpeazu warned against the stigmatization of victims, stressing that no patient is responsible for his predicament, as anyone could be plagued.
“To achieve this, The state epidemiologist has been directed to work out modalities for case searches using a sample population size of between 30 and 250 persons, in some densely populated LGA’s of the state.
“Meanwhile, we cannot win and save lives as long as we continue to stigmatize our patients. If anyone gets COVID-19, it’s unfortunate, but it’s not criminal and may not be his/her fault.
“Leading this battle from the front, as the Governor, I need all members of the first family subjected to COVID-19 test on Saturday, May 30, 2020 and the results came out negative today”.
The release further directs all the Transition Council Chairmen of the 17 LGAs and their deputies to present themselves for COVID-19 test, adding and thereafter isolate themselves pending the release of their test results”, the release stated.
Famous reporters recalls that an Elder Statesman, Hon. Chief Godfrey Onyemobi had in an interview, weekend, asserted that if properly investigated, more positive cases of the pandemic would emanate from Abia state.
