the member representing Aba south in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Obinna Ichita of distributing fake hand sanitizers to his constituents as the fight to protect and protect the people against COVID- 19 intensifies in the state.

Reportedly, the hand sanitizers produced by” THANNA” according to the aggrieved group is fake, as they further decried amid bitterness the level of discrimination as exhibited by the Lawmaker in sharing the sum of N5000 stipend as palliatives to only indigenes of Aba south his brothers and sisters with no reference to the non- indigenes who also voted for him in the constituency.

A statement signed by the president General of COSEYL and Secretary General, Chief Goodluck Ibem and comrade Kanice Igwe respectively, and issued to Famous Reporters says:

“We condemn in strong terms the sharing of fake hand sanitizer produced by ‘THANNA’  by the member representating Aba South State constituency Hon. “lt is totally unacceptable for a member elected by the people to represent them to come around to segregate who and who should benefit from the government. We totally reject the clanish behavior of Hon. Obinna Ichita. We need to remind him that it was not only indigenes that voted for him. Non-indigenes and indigenes of Aba South  voted for him during the elections. Why then should he give N5000 stipends to only his brothers and sisters in Aba South excluding the non-indigenes”

According to COSEYL, “during our tour of other constituencies in Abia State, we saw Honourable members of the state house of Assembly sharing pallatives to everyone that came or living in their constituency. It is only in Aba South State constituency that we saw that their member representating them sharing money to his brothers and fake sanitizers to non-indigenes living in his constituency. This is anti-people and it must stop”

The group  commended other honourable members of the Abia state house of Assembly who ensured that indigenes and non-indigenes living in their constituency benefited from the pallatives shared by them to cushion the effect of the lockdown.

The group brought some of the alleged hand sanitizers and one of the recipients  alleged that unlike the other sanitizers distributed across the state that the one given by the Honourable member is like groundnut oil and it does not dry in the palms.

“This type of sanitizer rather than stop people from contacting the coronavirus will even enhance the spread of the covid – 19 dreaded killer virus. The people of Aba South are in grave danger with the circulation of this fake sanitizers in Aba.

“The federal government, state government and the Covid – 19 committee should urgently stop the circulation of these sanitizers to avoid the spread of the virus which president Muhammadu Buhari has done so much to contain. The sit-at-home will be in vain should this fake sanitizers be allowed to circulate.”

Meanwhile, all efforts to reach Hon. Obinna lchita, as both an SMS sent to his mobile phone on the issue were ignored.
