Chief Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Okwadike 1 of Aguata LGA of Anambra State says the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would not have conceived the idea of establishing the Eastern Security Network had the various Governors of South East collectively formed a formidable security outfit to guarantee the protection of lives and property of the people in the region.
The one time Governor of Anambra State made this assertion in an exclusive interview with Famous Reporters at his Igboukwu home town, today, Sunday, April 11, lamenting that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) government of President Mohammadu Buhari has failed the nation and the citizenry in toto.
Reacting to the recent seamless insurgency of yet unidentified gunmen, the prominent Igbo leader who expressed worries over the current trends, reprimanded the federal government of Nigeria for her apparent insensitivity towards the lives and property of the people who had elected him into office.
He described the present situation of the country especially in the Eastern part as frightening and terrifying, noting that such was, in the past, only attributed to the Northern region but wondered why the South which was notably a tranquil area had suddenly resorted to insurgency, thus leaving the inhabitants in open-mouthed horror.
“It is frightening and terrifying to know that the kind of insecurity that we know for the Northern Nigeria is now coming to the South East and Eastern Nigeria. I am worried.”
Asked why the federal government seems threatened by the presence of the Eastern Security Network despite the existing security outfits operating in other regions of the country, Ezeife said:
“Nature has created a vacuum when the bandits were being shipped to the South, all of us thought that the Governors of the Southern Nigeria will form a security network to protect the lives of the people. The Governors of Southern Nigeria promised to do it but later changed their minds. That’s why Nnamdi Kanu at all thought of creating a security network. If the Governors had done their job, Nnamdi Kanu would not have thought of forming Eastern Security Network.”
Continuing, heartbroken Dr. Ezeife said: “But, we know that it is best for the Governors, even now to organise a security network. It is not too late and the earlier they do it the better for all of us. And it’s not just a matter of State Governors doing it for their states rather it’s for the entire Eastern Region or at least South East to organise a Security Network.”
Earlier in his words, Dr. Ezeife, without mincing words described the APC government as a failed government, saying it has failed in her primary duty to protect and secure lives and property.
“The safety and security of lives and property is the primary responsibility of the government. In Nigeria, government has failed in securing lives and property and that’s to say that the given has failed the nation.”
