The apex socio-cultural youth organisation in Igbo land, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, on Monday, urged the embattled President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, to toe the path of honour following the seeming dissolution of the Executive Council of the apex Igbo body.
The Igbo youth group said the dissolved Ohanaeze EXCO had everything within its beck and call to have concluded the registration process of the apex Igbo socio-cultural body, but could not do so, based on its selfish interest.
According to the ONYC, the dissolved EXCO failed to harmonise and champion the interests of different Igbo groups and affiliate unions, but was busy hob-nobing with a People’s Democratic Party Presidential candidate in the last general elections.
The President-General of the group, Okechukwu Isigusoro and Secretary General, Okwu Nnabuike, stated this in a statement, on Monday, adding that Igbo elder’s move, last week, to dissolve Ohanaeze’s EXCO, was in the best interest of the Southeasterners.
The statement read in part, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, call on Nnia Nwodo to emulate Adams Oshiomole and accept the dissolution of his Exco over their inability to conclude the registration process Of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which his predecessor Chief Gary Igariwey began in 2016.
“We can authoritatively say that because of pursuits of political gains using the Igbo platform, Nwodo’s attention was diverted from completion of the process of registration at Corporate Affairs Commission, which his predecessor started.
“They had everything at their disposal; there were funds from Governors on monthly basis and international donors supported him. There were new facilities in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretariat built by former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha. Instead of harnessing and harmonising all various interests groups and affiliated organisations, for all inclusive purposes and vibrant organisation, 2019 endorsement of PDP Presidential candidate, destroyed Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“There’s nothing wrong about what the elders, traditional rulers, religious groups had done but it is a salvage mission aimed at putting gbos back on track and stop certain individuals from been seen as untouchables.”
Recall that a new Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly was reporrtedly said to have been registered with the Corporate Affair Commission and purportedly taken over the leadership of the Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation.
The monarch of Igbariam community in the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Dr Nkeli Nzekwe, announced this on Sunday, while inaugurating the new group in his palace and himself as its Board of Trustees chairman.
