God Instructed Me To Go Back To Worship Music- Gospel Singer Turned Dunamis Pastor, James Msonter Opens Up
… Don’t Appear Nude To Injure Men, Ladies Warned

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Umuahia, in Abia State, Pastor James Msonter said he had earlier ditched his Music Ministry when he was called into God’s vineyard as a preacher of the gospel but God spoke to him, instructing him to go back to singing worship unto Him. According to the gospel Singer turned Pastor, he had at his emergence as a full time preacher, he had mistaken music for a distraction up until sometime in the year 2017 when the Lord asked him to go back to worship music. He told Charity Uwakwe, during a recent exclusive interview in his office at Dunamis International, Finbars Road, Umuahia, that God told him point-blank that He didn’t ask him to quit worship, and so he had no option but to return to his first calling. The renowned worshipper of God who disclosed this during the launching of his fourth album titled: ‘Strong Tower’ said he answered God saying: “Lord if you asking me to go back into worship, give me songs, and truly the Heavens open and then songs began to flow in, even today I received a song ‘Grace’.

Meanwhile, Pastor Msonter in this interview, amidst regrets, accused ladies in the church and society in general of causing injuries on the men folk, as he appeal to the former both in church and all over the world to abstain from indecent dressing of whatever sort.

Excerpts:

Q: Sir, you have recently done a music, may we hear the title, please.

It’s also going to be ‘Yesu Doo’. So that’s going be the fifth Album and this one is called Strong Tower’, which is the Theme if the album about 14 tracks. Beautiful songs comprising Worship, Praise, and Hip-hop. It’s called called ‘Strong, Tower’.

Q: Could you briefly tell us what motivated you to go into music, sir.

Resp: Yeah, I started as a passionate singer. I love singing, far back in Lagos my uncle have me singing and he said son if I know where to take you to, to help you brush up or polish your skills or your talent, I will take you there. Yeah he expressed that wish to me, it was positive, though he couldn’t take there but it was a step in the right direction, okay.

Fine I am doing this and somebody has recognize that I have a good voice, and I realized that God does not give us money, he gives us potentials, the first asset any man has is potential and God did not create us empty so, this is a potential that God has given to me first to use it praise him, so I started out as a gospel Artist far back in Lagos sing and so on, I was not leaving in the University then, going street by street, printing letters and paper giving to people to help me sponsor my music project, some people giving me fifty naira, some hundred naira, some two hundred naira, some five hundred naira, as their ability was.

We went about in Lagos collecting money in the street. So, far back in Lagos it was like, this is what I was going to do for life, I was going to be a full time gospel singer, that was what I was going to do; I love it, I can sing and not be hungry, if there’s food I don’t care, if am singing it’s like Passion in Christ I feel fulfilled.

Q: Alright, sir. So, for this particular album, titled: ‘Strong Tower’, what message do you intend to convey to the world?

Resp: It’s about the love of God, the personality of God, like Strong Tower. The Bible says: “the name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runeth unto it and is safe”. Where else can we hide, talking about the ability to serve God, the personality, giving us the priviledge to worship God. It’s all about God. Of course, there are also Inspirational Songs there, that will inspire you to become that God has called you to be. Like “Elu, kee ebe I na ga, Elu…” So, ‘Elu’ is an inspirational song, motivational song, so it’s worship, is motivating and it’s inspirational.

Q: So, now, as a Gospel Singer and a preacher of the gospel, what are your anticipations as regards this particular album, sir?

Resp: From this Album, we have been doing music, we are trusting that this album will be a turning point for my music Ministry, because we are not about to stop. Then let me just be refresh of mind. I left music I stepped into preaching full time. I thought music was going to be a distraction but in 2017 the Lord asked me to go back to worship music, he said he didn’t ask me to stop worship, so I went back and I said, Lord if you asking me to go back into worship, give me songs, and truly the Heavens open and then songs began to flow in, even today I received a song ‘Grace’. So, it was like an instruction to return back to the original calling, so we started all over. And we have been giving out songs. Basically, we give our songs free, yeah we sell like 20-30% of our song, but 70% is giving out to people, I was giving out free and still complaining in my heart that why am I producing it with money and giving out free, and the God said: “it’s first fruit. I am sowing it into the people life so that in due course, I will bless you”. So, my expectation from this ‘Strong Tower’ is that God is going to, practically breathe upon it and announce my music to people to the world, every door, every home, will be having ‘Strong Tower’ in their shelve and in their collections.

Q: Please, can you briefly tell us what roles the woman God has given to you as your wife, plays in your life in bringing your dreams to fulfilment, sir.

Resp: My wife’s name is Pst. Mrs. Washima Msonter. She’s a motivation. As the case may be, my wife has really stood by me. I met her with that form and void while I was discussing vision, this is what I want to do, I didn’t have the present, all I knew I had a future. (Laughs). I didn’t have a present true, she didn’t buy the present so the present was nothing to write home about. (Giggles). So, she has been an inspiration, she believed in me from day one, when I had two trousers and three shirts in 300L in the University. she was already doing her master’s degree when we met and she stood by me, people came, graduate came, people that were working class came, bankers came. I don’t know maybe if you ask her she Will tell you better, why she stuck to me but she has been an inspiration. We have been to the studio together, as soon as I receive a song I will tell her, “Honey I have received a song”. So, she’s always the first person to hear my songs anytime I receive them. It comes like a joke you know, you will just hear God giving you a tune in your spirit and then begin to sing it. For instance, I was washing my car this morning and the song came, I quickly sent my son who is four years get my phone I had to record the song, because you can forget it, if you get the first line that the Holy Spirit has put in your spirit then of cause the rest you will, is flesh then you wait on the bone. So, my wife has been an inspiration, she has never discouraged me, she has been an inspiration. She has never given me any troubles, she’s like the defender of the home front. She’s just there, just ensure am not distracted, I don’t go to the market to shop, my under wears, I don’t know where she buys them, so she has been an inspiration. My husband, I am supporting you, go to the skies. She’ll always tell me.Pastor James Msonter (aka. Egbeligwe) and his amiable wife, Pastor Mrs. Washima Msonter.

Q: So, what are your prayers for her?

Resp: We are going to live very long together and enjoy wealth. I told her we are going to die on the same day, I am older than her, I will die like today she will die tomorrow, so I will not die and leave her (Laughs). I am not going to leave a widow, because no man can take care of my wife so we are going to live very long together. I am just like two years older than her, so if I die at 100 she dies 98 that’s not bad. Or I die at 120 so she will die at 118. She has laboured wit me, we have come a long way together, times were there was no kerosene in the stove, times were they were no garri in the store, there were time were they were no rice. Yes, we have gone through so many things but she stuck. There were time where our first child wore Pampers for a while the rest were napkins, we would just put rag inside, put the napkins after a while, if he poos we remove it and wash the inner, and out back. My wife stock by me, I just pray that God is gonna blessus together and we will enjoy wealth together, touch the world together, touch the Continent of the world together, with this music ministry, something tells me that something great is about to happen. I wish she is the first to reap, she has never reap from this fruit, she’s the first to reap as God begins to bless us. Let me say this, she is also a worshiper. She has a song on YouTube, ‘My priviledge’. A solid worship song and this year she was even meant to be in the studio. She’s going to be in the studio later on this year, to begin to do her album project. She’s a worshiper.

Q: What advice do you have for the members especially the women folk in respect of their dressing styles.

Resp: When am driving with my wife and I see, her sisters, I will say to her: “Honey look at your sisters”. Those wearing bump shorts , very Skippy things, very revealing things, I will turn to her and say “Honey look at your sister.” The other day, I said Honey why don’t you start “Ladies Corner” and address this things. Yes, it is evil, I describe it as evil. We call it uncontrolled freedom, and anytime freedom is not controlled, there’s no that check, people just enter into problems when freedom is not checked. Everybody must be under somebody’s supervision. Many times, people who do that are people who feel that they are not under supervision. It has never given to a point in life when we are not under supervision by higher authorities. Like I have people who call me to order, when am about to go off the track, and so people should know that, in your house as a lady, you are under your father and woman under your husband roof you are under you husband. And so, please let us know that in our society today, whatever you do, is either a blessing to the society or an injuring and so don’t appear nude to injure people. A lady who appears nude for instant, a man stands sane and you just passed. Immediately, you gave the man the spirit of insanity. Meanwhile, he didn’t perform evil act with you but practically came under pressure. But, ladies know what they are doing; they know they are passing signal, just displaying signals and giving signals. Why must you appear nude in the street and giving signals to people. So, it is not a good one, it has come close to our door steps, it has come very close to our door step let us be dignified, let us be character driven, integrity driven, let us put the right thing before us. The Bible says: “think of this things, what so ever thing are pure what so ever thing are holy, what so ever thing are of good report”. It says think of these things. So, ladies should just have mercy on the society. sometimes, you see guys are going out well covered but the ladies are indecent. You see a man dressed very gentlemanly but you see him with a lady wearing skimpy thing, literally like a pant. So, ladies, please have mercy on the society that’s my message. Ladies please have mercy on the society.

Q: Please, sir, could you tell us your drive into the Ministry, sir, because many people have turned the church into a business. Was it a call from God or quest for fame

Resp: It’s a call from God. I was called into the Ministry far back. I think I started preaching when I was ten years preaching in the church when I was Ten years old, so called by God into the Ministry, graduated from the University get the certificate and then, carried broom began to sweep, began to hang around the church. It’s just passion to partner with God, to bring about the will of God beyond the Earth. The will of God can not come to pass in abstract; it’s about locating a man to partner with God. What is God doing now, psalm 90 vs 12 says Psalms 90:12 says “teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom”, what is God doing now, and how can I fit in? So, it’s about partnering with God to ensure that the will and the purpose of God comes to be. The Bible says, “God seeks for a man who will stand in the Gap”. you see he is speaking in the book Isaiah. 2 chronicle 16vs9 2 Chronicles 16:9 “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro the whole earth looking for those… So, God is always in search of a man. Then I said it’s about partnering with God. It’s a call from God to do the will of God and to bring about liberation for man kind.

Q: Sir, do you see Ministry as a profession?

Resp: Ministry is a professio. It’s a profession, the Bible says how can they hear if there’s no saint Alright is a profession, full blown profession, that is what Jesus came to do. Jesus was not a carpenter, he was not a Fisher man, he was not a blacksmith, he was a preacher, full blood preacher, full time preacher and he came to raise preachers and the twelves that stayed with him, he turned them into preachers, those that were fisherman he brought them too, from fishers of fish he turned into Fisher’s of men. They were doing all manner of jobs but he ended it and converted them into preaching profession.

Q: Ever since you answered this call, can you share with us what your greatest challenge has been?

Resp: The greatest challenge is, sometime you wish that, people can just easily obey God; the greatest challenge we have in the Christiandom to me as a pastor is disobedience. People hear alot but they obey very little, that has been the problem of God. He said: “if thou shall harken diligent unto the voice of thy God which I command thee today and the Lord; thy God will set the on high above all the nations of the word, and this blessings will come upon thee and over take thee if you harken deligently that’s Deuteronomy 28 vs 1-2, yeah if you hacking. So, as a preacher, just as a parent if you give your child instruction, and he doesn’t obey it how do you feel? Is not about money is about obeying the voice of God so that you can see what God has promise you, it is said that promises are delivered on premises and the promise of God s promised but is delivered on premises.

Q: How do you always feel when you go out on outreach and it seems like your efforts is not yielding any success, sir? Have you ever had such feelings before, sir?

Resp: Yes I’ve had it, such feelings are there Good enough is God that convince, so he does not convince everybody at the same time. The truth of the matter is, when we are going out, ad much as you will preach, am not expecting that everybody must accept my word. Jesus said go to any house and if they reject you, so that scripture always rings. I am not so disappointed when the people reject that me, rather I move, it is scripture fulfilled.

Pastor James Msonter aka. Egbeligwe, (M) the Resident Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Umuahia, Abia State.
Pastor James Msonter aka. Egbeligwe, (M) the Resident Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Umuahia, Abia State.

It says any home you go and they reject you, just dust your feet and move. So there are seasoning you be rejected, people will reject the gospel, even Jesus Christ was not accepted by everybody, that is why certain people killed him; he was killed by the people he came to save, so it’s expected. I am not saying that everybody must accept the flyer or the preaching I brought. But The one that God has ordained or orchestrated and designed to hear and obey what you have brought to them, they will hear you and obey you. Whoever God has knot will not, so people don’t get convicted at the same time, some is immediately, some is after one month, some is after one year, some is after ten years as the case may be but again it has to do with the willingness of man’s heart. If you are willing and obedient, God does not force people, Isaiah 1vs19: “if you are willing and obedient, you will hid the good of the land”; so it’s all about the willingness of man. So I go for either positive or negative. If someone accept what we have done praise God, we give God the praise and if they don’t accept we thank God and move on not being disappointed because it is expected.
