Ikwuano/Umuahia Decides: What I would have done if Aguocha had lost- Aham Ukoh Breaks Silence

By Charity Uwakwe

Following the resounding victory over of High Chief Obi Aguocha, the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency Member-elect, Hon.
Aham Ukoh, (PhD), a prominent son of Ohuhu clan, in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, has said that, he and his people would have resigned to fate if the reverse had been the case.

Hon. Ukoh, a two-time Commissioner stated point-blank that his people would have understood that it was the will of God for them, had Aguocha been defeated by his closest opponent or anyone of the contenders of the office.

He, however, admitted to the perfect will of God, as it were, hence the landslide victory of their illustrious son in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly election.

“Well, we’d then know it’s the will of God for us; what has happened today is God’s will for us. It could have gone otherwise but we still thank God.

On why he had remained behind the silent all through the tussle, he said:

“Yes, because I am of another party, PDP whereas he is of Labour Party, but for me, party like I said is just a platform. For as long as he is an Ohuhu man and I felt that this is what belongs to Ohuhu, even if he was not to be the one, if it was another person in Labour Party and it was Ohuhu’s turn, I would have also supported that person as far as it was the turn of Ohuhu to produce the next House of Representatives in 2023.

“Moreso, any contestant in this race, like I said, there’s no bitterness, whatsoever. The race has come and gone. The party only provided them with a platform to struggle for this and for service to humanity. So, his arms are open to everybody that contested with him, or did anything wrong personally or otherwise against him in pursuit of this result. That one is now bygone. We’re looking forward, carrying everyone along, all those involved in the pursuit of this and in the best interest of Umuahia and Ikwuano.

Famousreporters.com recalls that the renowned Ugwumabiri Umuahia, who emerged triumphant with 48,199 votes, hence has defeated Ikuku Oma Abia who also amassed 35,196 votes, had, during a grand reception by St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Nkwoegwu, described Ukoh as the man behind the mask during the hurdles.

Ukoh who commended the Member-elect for his unflinching zeal to recover his near stolen mandate, expressed joy over the impact the victory would have on Ohuhu clan and the entire Constituency in general.

While describing Aguocha’s victory as “victory for all”, Dr. Ukoh informed all and sundry to come partner him in the struggle liberate Ikwuano/Umuahia and Abia in general and restore hope to the people.

“I’m excited about what has happened because this development is to the glory of God and it’s a proof that whatever is your heart desire, and God approves of it, you must have the boldness to pursue it and definitely, you’ll achieve it.

“So, the victory that Obi Aguocha got today is a victory for everybody, whether you are from Ohuhu, Ibeku, Umuahia North or South, or Ikwuano, this is a victory for all of us. So, there is no Voctor and there’s no Vanquish!

Speaking further, he said: “His arms are open for everyone to come partner with him so he can serve the people of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and South. The victory is not personal to him, it’s our victory and that victory is all inclusive. Already, the other contestants from Ohuhu have all exchanged pleasantries; they have called themselves on the phone. IMG20230227173031

Asked why he was confident in Aguocha’s envisaged victory despite knowing the status of his closest opponent, the incumbent Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, he described courage and boldness as an indispensable virtue to achieve one’s life’s aspirations, despite all odds.

“Well, you must have the courage and boldness to achieve your aspirations. We’re convinced that it is the turn of Ohuhu people to produce the next member of House of Representatives, having gone round to somebody from Umuahia south, Ikwuano, Umuahia North- which had somebody from Ibeku land, so, we had to pursue it with a bold heart.

“And on what gave me the confidence; my confidence is that we pursued it with every strength and courage. Also, my confidence is that it is the will of God and we thank God that we got it”, he added.
