IKWUANO/UMUAHIA: I’m going there, not to disgrace you but gi you effective representation, Aguocha Assures
Aguocha holds thanksgiving, says “I’m glad Ohuhu stood firm in what belonged to them”.
The House of Representatives Member, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Obi Aguocha (Ogwumabiri 1 of Umuahia), has lauded stakeholders of Ohuhu Development Union, and the entire people of Ohuhu, in Umuahia North LGA of Abia, for not allowing their adversaries subvert their victory in the just concluded 2023 general election.
Aguocha, while appreciating God during his thanksgiving service, held over the weekend, at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Nkwoegwu, in Ohuhu, applauded the people for standing firmly on what he said was rightfully their, inspite of the obvious intimidation and victimization from their Ibeku counterparts.
It could be recalled that the contest for the representation of Ikwuano/ Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, which held on February 25, between the immediate past Speaker of the 7th Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji of PDP and Aguocha, was a tug of war in the history of Abia State.
This was even as the situation, according to reports, deteriorated to the arrest and instant changing of the returning officer, (name withheld) for bluntly declining to all advances geared towards perverting the outcome of the election to disfavour the LP’s candidate.
To this effect, the Ogwumabiri 1 of Umuahia assured that he would not bring shame on his Constituents rather would offer them an effective representation.
Speaking, he said: “I am glad that Ohuhu people stood firm in what belonged to them; in ensuring that we contested for it and defending it and we’ll continue in our efforts to defend and protect what God has given to us.”
- Ogwumabiri Ohuhu used the medium to rededicate his life the Almighty God, saying His grace, love and mercy which were manifested in his life life during the electoral process had captured his heart for God and at the same time, prompted him to believe more in the existence of the Almighty God.
“God showed us His mercy. Whoever did not believe in the existence of God before this day should reconcile with God and believe that He exists because there’s a living God and we should believe in Him, more especially His grace upon us. And my pledge is that I shall from now be committed to serving God.
So, I’m happy that we all have come to witness this. Today, I want to also remember my parents, Dr. Obi Aguocha, his wife, Mrs. Gladys Aguocha and his brother, Bobby Aguocha and all departed faithfuls.
What we are striving for is for the sustenance of our name; it is to ensure that our names would never go into extinction but are ever remembered. The name of the people of Ohuhu shall never vanish into thin air. Yes, it was what we did;
The name of Ohuhu people shall not disappear, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
“And I want to thank each and everyone of you who vowed to stay alive to witness this day in the history of the people of Ohuhu. Using my brother, Hon. Aham Ukoh PhD as a point of contact, I want to commend everyone of us who played one role or the other to ensure the success of this struggle.”
Furthermore, the Federal Legislator who had promised during his campaigns, to be the voice of the Igbo extraction, reminded that his first motion upon resumption of office, would be focused on the unconditional release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“I’m going there, not to disgrace you but to work for you. I’m going to do the work that you are sending me to do. I shall not glue my lips neither would I develop a boil in my tongue. I’m going to speak in favour of Ohuhu, Ikwuano/Umuahia and the entire Igbo nation. My first motion will be the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”Aguocha
Meanwhile, he used the medium to thank immensely, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti for giving him the opportunity to contest under the Labour Party (LP) platform.
“I want to profoundly appreciate my Governor, Dr. Alex Otti for the opportunity he granted me to contest under the Labour Party.
Addressing newsmen, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, Anglican Arch Bishop charged Aguocha to uphold the trust as reposed on him by his Constituents.
“People trusted him which was why they voted massively for him so that trust should not be betrayed.
Bishop Ibeabuchi urged the Legislator to embrace diligence in his service to nation, “remembering his Constituency and to ensure that you represent us well.
“Because, if he refuses to represent us well, in the next election, we will throw him out. That was exactly what we said at the pulpit and we repeat it and we mean it”, he insisted, while imploring the people to be patient with Aguocha, as he prayed for God’s blessings and wisdom upon him.
In his remarks, the President-General, Ohuhu Welfare Union, enjoined the congregation on the need to always put God first in all of their dealings, saying “whatever you do and recognize God first, you will never be put to shame. And my joy is that the moment he was sworn in, he came straight to the House of God to glorify Him.
He commended Aguocha for his eminent performances in Ohuhu Kingdom during his service as a President-General, describing same as magnificent.
“He performed remarkably well in Ohuhu land as a President-General and now he handed over to me, leaving me with a very big shoe. I carry a message of peace; I want peace.
He thanked the stakeholders of Ohuhu particularly the priests, traditional rulers and Hon. Aham Ukoh, a two-timer Commissioner, for their immense efforts in restoring joy in the land of Ohuhu, as he prayed for God’s overflowing joy and love upon their households.
“Today, I thank you all for all the efforts you put in to ensure that Ohuhu’s name stands tall this day; the priests, traditional rulers and my elder brother, Hon. Aham Ukoh, my prayer is that any day you shall contest for whatsoever, may you never be stranded, in Jesus’ name, Amen. I know that wherever Dr. Okpara is today, his soul must be rejoicing for the dignity of Ohuhu has been restored through Rt. Hon. Aguocha.
