The contractor handling the ongoing construction of the road leading to the palace of HRH Eze Israel O. Kanu, the late King of Afaraukwu, Ibeku, in Umuahia North LGA of Abia state has cleared the air over purported disruption of the repair of the road by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Engr. Odera Udutchay of ODERNIX NIG LTD, when he was visited by Famous Reporters at the construction site blankly debunked the allegation against IPOB members, stressing that the group had in no manner of means disrupted their activities, they have remained peaceful and law abiding.

Engr. Udutchay, however, regretted that most of the their apparatuses used for the building of the road by some unidentified hoodlums, but disclosed that they had never been approached by any member of IPOB, noting that he will not hold the latter responsible, whatsoever, for the mischievous deed.

In his words:
“Yesterday, our equipment and materials were vandalised and set on fire. For now, I can’t say much about it but IPOB has never stopped us from working here”.

“The people supervising us is that Ministry of works. We’ve notified them and they have sent someone to see what they have done, we’ve snapped pictures of the incident and we’re writing a report now which they will get between today and Monday so they will take it up from there”.

Although he pointed out that the vandalised equipment have been replaced in a bid to facilitate the speedy completion of their work within the stipulated period of time, he bluntly turned down all advances geared towards compelling him to indict any member of the community, insisting that “the police is investigating the case”, as he maintained that the said work had been going on uninterrupted.

“I’m not the police. It is not my work to find out who did this thing on the site, I’m only here to do my work and go my way. I’m not accusing anybody. The police should do their work, the police was here yesterday’s morning to investigate. The community leaders were here too and they did some things they did about the incident. So, what I’m saying is that the law will take its course to find out whoever”.

Famous Reporters recalls vividly that some undisclosed persons had reported that some IPOB members had tried to restrict the contractor and his men from delivering their job over an alleged indignation prompted by the sudden change of mind by the state government, led by Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

On whether there had been any confrontation of some sort by members of the group as purportedly said, on his men on site, he said:

“I’m not aware of such thing”, he thundered.

Meanwhile, he thanked the Governor for deeming the road construction worth-it-while towards ensuring an eye appealing road and the remains of the King and his Queen are laid to rest.
