Isu Communual Crisis: Rep Member Nkole flags off distribution of relief materials for victims

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated relief materials to persons affected by the inter Communal Community Conflict in Isu Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State on Wednesday 2020.

Speaking during the flag off distribution ceremony, the Member Representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Nkole 
thanked the donors and lauded all prominent politicians in Abia North for their pivotal role to ensure that  peace was restored  to community.

Nkole expressed shock at their visit to Ohabuike Primary School, Ubila, Obiene Arochukwu in Isu, Ututu, Arochukwu respectively, noting that same will reflect the devastating impact of the inter communal conflict.

” It is disheartening and pathetic to note that this ugly incident has resulted to loss of lives, means of livelihood, properties and massive displacement if people. There is severe hunger, starvation and malnutrition at the Internally Displaced Persons (IPDs) Camps in both Isu, Ututu, Arochukwu clans as a result of the boundary clash in Isu Communities”.

Further more, Nkole said  that based on the aforemention clash made him to raised a motion in the House of Representatives on the urgent need for the President and Commander in-chief of the Armed Forces to immediately deploy the Armed Forces to Isu Beach line boundary Communities in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State to forestall further killings and restore peace and order.

He further revealed  that NEMA was mandated to provide relief assistance to the affected persons while National Boundary Commission was directed to delineate the boundary to provide lasting solution to Inter Communal Conflict.

” I am pleased to inform you that the relief items were attracted by my concerted efforts in raising the motion in the House of Representatives. This relief assistance no doubt will mitigate the impact of the disaster on the affected persons in Isu Community”.

He reassured the people of Isu that   peace and order in  their Community is on course and that he is determined to vigorously pursue and put in place necessary steps and proactive measures that will guarantee this noble objective. Efforts will be geared towards facilitating the process of delineating the boundary by National Boundary Commission.

Also speaking, the Senate Chief Whip and the Senator Representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who was represented by Rev. Mrs. Jemaima Ola Kalu thanked the federal lawmaker for the great feats and “rising up to the occasion and I am inviting you to the occasion.

He promised to continue to synergize with Hon. Nkole to ensure peace and order returned to the Isu community.

In their separate speeches, the Executive Secretary, Abia State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr. Sunday Jackson and the Coordinator, NEMA, Owerri Operations, Mr. Evans Ugo extolled the sagacity displayed by Hon. Uko Nkole by following up the motions he raised on the House of Representatives and ensuring its implementation by the Agency of the Federal Government which according to them its the largest ever distributed in the state.

They promised to ensure equitable and fair distribution of the relief materials to the affected persons.

In addition, the Secretary General, Isu Progressives Union, Engr. Amarachi Kalu who spoke on behalf of the entire community thanked Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole, NEMA and other political leaders for the various roles they have played towards restoring peace and order to the community.

“We thank you especially for facilitating the relief materials which you have told us will go a long way to provide succour to the affected persons during the communal crises”, shed added, as she pledged the community’s preparedness to work with NEMA officials during the distribution of the relief items.
