The member representing Afikpo North/Afikpo South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Barr Iduma Igariwey, on Monday, promised to build about 23 modern toilet facilities, across the constituency.
This is in his bid to forestall dangers associated with open defecation among his constituents.
He frowned at the repulsive odour emanating from local toilet pits located at various playgrounds in the constituency, lamenting that such is capable of exposing natives to all manner of diseases.
Our Correspondent observed that Ehughu people, in the Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, where the federal lawmaker hails from, were in the habit of indulging in open defecation, owing to absence of functional and modern toilet facilities in the area.
Hon Igariwey stated this, on Monday, at his Ehugbo country hometown while addressing members of his media team, saying he was poised to construct additional 23 modern toilet facilities across the constituency.
He expressed concern over the poor sanitation in the area, as a result of the irritating odour oozing out from different public toilet pits in the area.
He said, “We are going to build 23 toilet facilities in this constituency to address poor sanitation here. You can see that there are no toilet facilities in many residential houses.
“Many people go to toilet at Ogo playgrounds and ordour from those public toilets are very offensive and pose threats to public health.
“We have resolved to address this age-long problem and we are going to build 23 modern toilet facilities in our constituency. We will start it this year by God’s grace and we believe that they will go along way in solving this problem.”
