Church and Christian leaders from the Southeast and South-south geopolitical zones,  have yesterday, Tuesday, resolved to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly today, Wednesday.

The chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Abia State, Apostle Emmanuel Agomuo who spoke after the meeting disclosed that the Church and Christian leaders had taken what he described as a critical view of the threat as well as the killings by Fulani Herdsmen and seen the need to take the matter beyond the Southeast and South-south zones.

Apostle Agumuo explained that the issue of Herdsmen killings was becoming very disturbing and that the grave nature of the wanton waste of lives, hence the decision to book an appointment with the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila and thereafter meet with the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan in order to bare their minds.

Hear him: “Herdsmen killings are becoming very disturbing and the authorities appear not to be doing anything about it. We, the Southeast and South-south Christian and Church leaders want to alert the leadership of the National Assembly and seek for their intervention”.

“If they don’t do anything, we may be compelled to do something ourselves by alerting the international community like the United States, European Union and others. Christian and Church leaders are saying enough is enough.

“We’re aware that some of the arms and weapons in all the military formations in the Southeast have been relocated to the core north preparatory to a supposed onslaught against the Southeast. The alleged relocation of arms and ammunitions in the military formations in our zone is aimed at keeping the Southeast vulnerable to impending”, he submitted.

Meanwhile, the meeting of Church and Christian leaders which was held at the Vision Africa Radio (VAR), premises in Umuahia, attracted over 60 of them from Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa and other states in the zones.

However, one of the Christian and Church leaders, Arch Bishop Princewill Ariwodo who also spoke to journalists said the killings can be stopped if the government demonstrates enough determination to end them.

“We’re going to Abuja to inform the leadership of the National Assembly that we need protection against the attacks by Herdsmen. This is the planting season where our farmers and women go to the farms to farm. But now, the Herdsmen have taken over the farms and nobody is going to the farms again.

“Yet the government is talking of increased in farming. The country is being impoverished as a result of the killings in our farms. We’re also going to Abuja to ask the government to not to shift over its decision to stop the loan. Why should Nigeria borrow $22.7billion when we can look inward? We’ll also tell the National Assembly to allow the communities provide their own security because Southeast and South-south zones are prone to Herdsmen attacks.

“They should be allowed to provide their own security or the government should provide adequate security to Christians that are being killed by arresting these killer Herdsmen. So far, there is no record of any arrest of the Herdsmen who had murdered thousands of Nigerians”, he lamented.
